So long, and thanks for all the fish

Metacognitive Journal Post

I think my strengths throughout this course have been-listening to feedback from the teacher, as well learning from the information I gained from reading my classmates' discussions and comment on my journal entries. I think that I also utilized the technology at my disposal in creative ways in order to complete assignments. For example, for my final presentation I wanted it to feel more like an in-person presentation, so I recorded it in my classroom, while also editing in close ups of the powerpoint slides for easier viewing.

In the areas where I could improve- double checking directions after completing assignments and before submitting them. I have been deducted points for mistakes that were easily correctable, if I had reviewed the directions! I also found myself reading the same people’s journals or discussions because they posted in a more timely manner than others. I would like to be more conscious of waiting and looking at people’s work throughout the assignment’s window, rather than just at the beginning of it.

I have not alway loved the idea of incorporating technology into my art classroom. I think that the art room is for making-using our hands to create and explore materials. However, after learning more about how games can be utilized in the art room, and completing the research on my final paper (Technology in the art room), I find myself coming around to the idea of utilizing it more. Also realizing that I do in fact use technology more than I thought I did!

Upon completing this course I find myself thinking of ways to incorporate video games into my lessons and will work on finding out if this is even possible with the technology available to me in my district. I think I will be more cognizant of student’s digital literacy skills, and how I can continue to improve what/how I am teaching to allow them opportunities to improve in this area. Overall, I think I am more aware of the types of technology I could use in my room, and will continue to explore how to best incorporate them into lessons for my students.

  1. Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing your thoughts on your own performance. I too am limiting myself when I provide discussion responses because I do not always have time to keep revisiting the discussion forum. My goal is to check back more frequently to provide feedback more often and to other classmates. I do love hands-on music making in my elementary music classroom, but I've also been open to the value of digital tools and resources. Thank you again for your insightful reflection.

  2. Hi,
Thank you for sharing. It was been really nice reading your post each week or discussions. I agree with you after I submit assignments, I would look at the feedback and realize there was easy fixes I could of made. Or APA format was a weakness for me every time I think I have it its not right.
